User Guide
How the square works.
ThumbConnect is a public square with five cards: Play, Ask, Share, Connect, and Discuss. You arrive with nothing, do something, and leave whenever you want.
Your nickname
- Anonymous - most people join with an auto-assigned nickname like
tc123. No email needed. - Custom - choose your own nickname and add an email, so you can recover it later. Your email is never shown publicly.
- Your nickname is held in a cookie on your device. If you join through a game invite, you get a
gamernickname automatically.
Play
Games you can play alone against the computer, or against a friend.
The Play page lists what's available. To play a friend, open a game and send them the invite link - they join without signing up.
Ask - the conversation square
Ask the square anything.
- Post - give it a title, then write your question or thought. Optionally add an intention (Need advice / Need help / Show off / What do you think?), a picture, or a poll with 2 to 4 options.
- Reply - anyone can reply. Replies are public and read top to bottom. You can aim a reply at a specific comment with "replying to".
- Poll - votes are real and you can change yours anytime.
Share - give, lend, trade, show
Post what you have or what you need. No categories - the message is the category.
- Post - write your message, optionally add a picture and an area.
- Interested - someone replies to your listing with a private note that only you can see.
- Your listings - see who's interested in what you posted. Your contact details are not published automatically. You decide whether to include them in a private response.
Connect - do something together
Want to do something? Find someone to do it with.
- Post - write your invitation, and optionally add a place and a "when" in your own words.
- Interested - someone replies with a private note that only you can see.
- Your invitations - see who's interested in your post.
Discuss - your own boards
Anyone can open a board and run it.
- Start a board - give it a name, a description, and optionally some rules.
- Topics and replies - a board holds topics; each topic holds replies, just like Ask.
- You moderate your board - as the creator you can delete topics and replies, ban a nickname from your board, or delete the whole board.
- Abandoned boards - if a creator leaves and their board is frozen, you'll see "Admin position is open." Any participant can claim it - first click wins.
Your account
- Update email - change the email tied to your nickname anytime.
- Leave - deactivate your account. Your email is removed and your nickname is marked "No longer participating." Your public contributions remain. Boards you administer become read-only until another participant claims them.
Reporting
See something that breaks the guidelines? Use the Report button. A report records the concern; it does not remove content by itself.
